Linocut Printmaking

The Kookaburra by Bridget Farmer
I have to admit I love the linocut printmaking process, particularly reduction linocut printing or the "suicide print" as it is sometimes called.
Here is a terrific video on linocut by a talented artist and printmaker Bridget Farmer.

Blizzard '15

Well, maybe not so much of a blizzard here in Maryland. But I still like how the snow reflects different colors...snow is not white!

Presently at auction at my Daily Paintworks Gallery!

Sometimes it takes a little time....

I know I haven't posted any artwork in awhile...I've been working on several larger pieces and decided to post the progression of at least one of them. This took me over two weeks to plan, sketch and finally transfer to the painting surface. This will be a16x20 inch oil painting called "Mi Amigo". I'll start with the initial under painting tomorrow. YEA!

Things happen!

Plein air painting by Romona Youngquist
Well, I had all sorts of good intentions of participating in the 30 day challenge but then I got a painting commission and started several larger works that need attention. So not such a bad thing after all. I will still be posting the progression of where I am with my paintings and still painting daily, but maybe not posting daily. Meanwhile here's a good article about painting larger landscapes from Lori Mcnee's blog:

Day 3 of the 30 paintings in 30 days 2015

My day 3 submission of the 30 paintings challenge. Yes, I did skip posting for one day. I discovered that trying to create something with a sinus infection and the world spinning around and feeling under the weather does not make for a good painting session.

I got this finished rather quickly today...guess I just needed some sleep.

“Eat poor on New Year's, and eat fat the rest of the year.”

Day 1 of a New Year and Day 1 of a new 30 paintings in 30 days challenge!

This is a painting titled "Greens N Beans" in keeping with the New Year's traditions.

Black-eyed peas and greens are a traditional New Year's meal in the South and have actually been considered good luck for at least 1500 years. It was a Jewish custom, starting around 500 A.D. to eat black-eyed peas in celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Symbolically, eating black-eyed peas with greens and cornbread is the best combination because the black-eyed peas loosely resemble coins and dried beans greatly expand in volume, symbolized expanding wealth. Greens represent the color of money and cornbread, is of course gold….”Peas for pennies, greens for dollars and cornbread for gold.”

Have a great 2015 and eat your beans!
